CONFIDENTIAL MUSICAL THEATRE PROJECT #18

Can you keep a secret?

The Next Confidential is April 27th at 7:00pm!

Come sample The Confidential Musical Theatre Project for another once-in-a-lifetime theatrical experience!

The Highland Arts Theatre is proud to announce: The 18th edition of the Cape Breton Confidential Musical Theatre Project.

If you're in for a silly, laugh-out-loud, outrageous, "no they didn't!" good time, this might just be the perfect place to be. This Confidential Musical is a show we've wanted to do for years and happens to have a special tie in for our 10th Anniversary Season...

HOW IT WORKS:

We choose a Broadway musical. We cast the musical with the best performers possible regardless of age, race, body type, or gender. We get them their scripts and scores and ask them to familiarize themselves with their role(s). We ask them not to reveal the title of the musical or their role in it to anyone. With NO rehearsals, we all meet for the first time on the night of the performance and start the musical. The challenge for the performers: create an ensemble on their feet in front of an audience. The audience shows up without knowing what show they're going to see. The only rule: We don't stop - no matter what happens.

Essentially, you get to see the First Rehearsal, Dress Rehearsal, Opening Night, and Closing Night all in the span of two hours!

Sound like fun? You have no idea. Join the limited group who will experience a show like no other that can never be repeated!

Guaranteed to sell out so book early!

IAN THOMAS... NOT GONE YET!

Shantero Productions presents

IAN THOMAS... NOT GONE YET! FULL BAND TOUR

Ian Thomas is “the complete entertainment experience!” He is a film-composer with 22 feature films to his credit; an author; an actor, much sought after as a voice-over artist and recognized for roles such as Dougie Franklin on the Red Green Show... and, of course, a Juno-award-winning Singer-Songwriter whose songs helped form the bedrock of the Canadian musical landscape, a contribution recognized by SOCAN when Ian was honoured with a National Achievement Award for Songwriting.

Ian Thomas first garnered major radio airplay in1973 with the top-40 single Painted Ladies, followed by a string of hits throughout the 70s and 80s, and on into the 90s with his band The Boomers. Whether performed by him or covered by artists including Santana, Chicago, Manfred Mann, America, Bon Jovi and Bette Midler, Ian’s many hits continually achieved heavy rotation on radio across Canada and around the world ... recordings such as Come The Sun, Long Long Way, Right Before Your Eyes, Coming Home, Pilot, Hold On, Time Is The Keeper, Liars, Wishes, The Runner, Levity, Back To Square One, Love Ya Too Much, You Gotta Know, One Little Word, Dirty Love, To Comfort You, and of course, Painted Ladies. In the new millennium, Ian joined fellow singer-songwriters Murray McLauchlan, Marc Jordan and Cindy Church to form Lunch At Allen’s, touring coast to coast for the past two decades, and now with five albums to their credit.

Of his art, Ian says: “The song remains the most satisfying creative experience for me. Songs are interactive and, with over 50 years of writing, I have spent many hours with each one and they with me. When I listen to one of my old albums, I remember where I was and the people I made them with, some living, some now dead. I think about who I am, who I used to be, and who I thought I was. These albums are like flags stuck in the road behind me that wind back, into the past, almost out of view.”

Ian Thomas, with his stellar 4-piece band, brings past to present recreating the original sound of all the hits ... 70s, 80s, 90s and beyond. Ian Thomas ... Not Gone Yet!

JUNO AWARD WINNER - CANADIAN FOLK LEGEND VALDY

JUNO AWARD WINNER - CANADIAN FOLK LEGEND VALDY

Juno Award Winner - Canadian Folk Legend VALDY

Valdy, born Valdemar Horsdal, has been part of the fabric of Canadian pop and folk music for half a century. He is well known for “Play Me a Rock ‘n’ Roll Song” but has also delighted audiences everywhere performing classics such as “Peter & Lou”, “Yes I Can”, “Renaissance”, “Sonny’s Dream” and many more.

One of Canada’s premier folk artists, Valdy had an improbable hit with a song about a decidedly hostile audience heckling a soft-spoken minstrel. The square-peg-in-a-round-hole story recounts Valdy’s bitter-sweet memory of finding himself, a relaxed and amiable storyteller, facing a rambunctious audience playing at the Aldergrove Rock Festival in 1968, where the rock-loving audience jeered his folk offerings.

Play Me a Rock and Roll Song’s success is attributable in part to several factors. It cleverly played into the hippy counter-culture movement, while embodying the tensions between rock and folk fans (which Bob Dylan discovered when he infamously used electric instruments at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival). A man with a thousand friends, from Newfoundland to Vancouver Island to Cape Breton Island to Texas to New Zealand, he's a singer, guitarist and songwriter who catches the small but telling moments that make up life.

Valdy has sold almost half a million copies of his 16 albums, 22 singles, has 2 Juno Awards (Folk Singer of the Year and Folk Entertainer of the Year), a total of 7 Juno nominations and 4 Gold albums to his credit.

ORDER OF CANADA:

Valdy has been named to the Order of Canada (Arts/Music) for his achievements as a folk musician and for his support of charitable causes.

THE SNOWED IN COMEDY TOUR

The Snowed In Comedy Tour has turned into a Canadian success story, celebrating its fifteenth year. It has now grown to become the biggest comedy tour in Canada. Playing in 70 cities this year, coast to coast. In a market still dominated by American acts, with American TV credits, a small Canadian comedy tour has managed to succeed. Like the Tragically Hip they have done it by touring and making more and more people laugh, year after year. The tour has now performed in Australia, The US, France, and Switzerland. The tour has received numerous standing ovations.

A new play by Lindsay Thompson
Directed by Rachael Murphy
A WORLD PREMIERE

Emmaline Vance is perfectly fine living her life as a single librarian, following her own rules and staying in her own lane. So why do the story time puppets keep talking to her?

When fifteen-year-old Addison Woods bursts into the library looking for someplace to hide, Em decides to break the rules and get involved. But does trying to help only make things worse? And who is she really helping anyway? Tie in a hidden wedding dress, an ugly cactus, a handsome exterminator and an anonymous mouse? Suddenly Em and Addy start to find something that is long overdue. A comedy about love, lonely people and our doomed best intentions.
